COUNT (Central Ohio United Non Theists) invites HCCO members to assist in food preparation, serving dinners, and cleaning up at the Van Buren homeless shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen). The shelter is located at 595 Van Buren Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43223, near Harmon and Mound Streets.

CDC protocols and local regulations for COVID-19 must be followed. In addition, masks are required for all volunteers regardless of vaccination status. Volunteers will meet at the main entrance. There is ample free parking available in the shelter’s lot. The approved areas to park are in yellow in the photo above. Please do not park in the areas outlined in red as your vehicle may get towed.

Volunteering at the Van Buren homeless shelter is an excellent way to show central Ohio that humanists care about the least fortunate in our community.

Since volunteers will be working around families, the Shelter does not permit participation by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The Shelter reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. The shelter needs a list of volunteer names the day before the event, so please RSVP to COUNT by 2 PM on Monday, January 10.
