August 12 @ 10:16 am

COUNT would like to invite HCCO members to join them in assisting shelter staff in serving dinners and cleaning up at the Van Buren shelter on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The COUNT team has most of the volunteer slots reserved for those who RSVP here (so you don’t have to RSVP anywhere else). The Community Shelter Board organizes dinner preparation at homeless shelters around Central Ohio.
Please sign up on COUNT’s or HCCO’s. Meetup page. You DO NOT need to sign up anywhere else.
Ultimately we need at least 15-20 people to volunteer for things to run smoothly. The shelter is located at 595 Van Buren Drive near Harmon and Mound Streets. There is ample free parking available.
We may go out afterwards (probably to Hampton’s to have a bite/drink and join the Omnipresent Atheists (OA) meeting in progress – if curious, see details about OA meetings at http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).

From http://www.csb.org/:
“The Community Shelter Board is ending homelessness in our community. We oversee over $13 million in funding for homelessness prevention initiatives, emergency shelters, housing services, and supportive housing — showcasing an innovative, collaborative model for abolishing homelessness. We work collaboratively with 12 partner agencies to unify resources and knowledge, helping over 8,000 people each year.
“The Community Shelter Board was created in 1986 to respond to the growing problem of homelessness in Franklin County. Our founders include: the City of Columbus, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, the United Way of Central Ohio, The Columbus Foundation, the Columbus Chamber and many other organizations concerned about the quality of life in Franklin County.”
