Humanist Program: Professor Shannon Winnubst: Is ‘Race’ Our ‘God’?
May 9 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
This month, Professor Shannon Winnubst, Chairperson of OSU’s Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, will be giving a presentation titled “Is ‘Race’ Our ‘God’?”, which will focus on Sylvia Wynter’s work on the transformation of the concept of “god” into the concept of “race.” Dr. Winnubst’s research has focused on specific themes and intersections in the fields of queer theory, race theory, feminist theory, and twentieth century French theory, in addition to the conceptual transformations of social difference and ethics underway in the social rationality of neoliberalism.

The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest-running event and still a community favorite. In the old days, it was called “Going to HCCO” and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Join us the second Saturday of most months for free refreshments and enlightening presentations. The refreshments are available starting at 11:30a and the presentation starts at noon. The ongoing pandemic crisis has necessitated that our meetings be virtual for the foreseeable future.
