Humanist Program: The Hunt for Other Worlds and Life in the Universe
March 9 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called “Going to HCCO” and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
Join us each and every second Saturday for free breakfast, coffee, and enlightening presentations. The coffee, fruit, and pastries start flowing at 11:30am and the presentation starts at 12noon.
This month is also a very special month for HCCO. We are celebrating HCCO’s 40th birthday! We’ll have some birthday treats for everyone to enjoy.
This month we our speaker will be Scott Gaudi. Scott is the Thomas Jefferson Professor for Discovery and Space Exploration at the Ohio State University Department of Astronomy. He’ll be presenting “The Hunt for Other Worlds and Life in the Universe”.
“We are privileged to live in a remarkable time. For the first time in human history, we are beginning to glimpse answers to some of our oldest questions: Are there other worlds out there? Are there other solar systems like ours? Do those systems contain Earthlike planets? Do those planets harbor life? I will provide a guided tour of the golden age of the exploration of extrasolar worlds and the search for extraterrestrial life, focusing on the hunt for analogs to our solar system, and the search for the ‘pale blue dot’: another world just like our own.”
