Columbus Pride Parade March & Tabling

We are doing Pride 2019 right! Show Columbus that HCCO supports the worth and dignity of ALL people! This June we are marching on Saturday and tabling all weekend. Volunteers are needed for both. Also, unique HCCO Pride 2019 T-shirts, designed by our own Karla Norquist, will be available to show your humanist pride! They’ll be on sale to the general public, but Pride volunteers will get them for free!

Comfest Tabling

HCCO will have a booth at ComFest (Community Festival) again this year. As such, we will need two volunteers at a time to occupy our booth, in addition to setting it up at the beginning of the day and taking it down at the end of the day. We will explain to attendees what humanism is and what the HCCO is all about, hopefully attracting some new members in doing so. Pamphlets and other informational materials will be available for attendees who are interested.

Humanist Program: The Philosophy of Self

In this discussion, Dr. Raehll challenges prominent conventions within personal identity theories that suggest in order to truly be “one’s self” a person need be a persisting substance and/or preserve a continuous psychological state. In contrast, Dr. Raehll carves out the space for consideration of a self that is actually just a process resulting from the extended phenotype of a biological organism. Implications, as such, may allow for a selfing process to extend beyond the biological organism to include elements from the ecosystem, thereby resulting in an embedded, emergent, and extended approach to personal identity.

Our Summer Picnic is one of our largests events every year. It’s a great opportunity to hang out and relax with friends as well as bring and meet new folks too. This is a FREE potluck event (please sign up when you RSVP) that will include outdoor activities for all ages.
